Many of us loved carousels, or merry-go-rounds, as children. We climbed upon the beautiful horses in anticipation of the ride to come and were caught up in the excitement of racing along, fulfilling our childhood fantasies of freedom and heroism. We were cowboys and cowgirls, members of a posse, riders in a race, or gentle folk on a country outing. And our parents or grandparents stood on the side and waved to us each time we rode past. But eventually the ride came to an end. We grew up, and many of the world's carousels closed and fell into disrepair. Happily, today a number of the great horses we rode as children are being restored or reproduced. Some are doing again what they were meant to do as part of a carousel; others are taking their places in collections as the great works of art that they are.
It is my wish that my Carousel Jewelry will spark in you the memories you have of those childhood rides. And I hope you will find these little carousel pieces to be works of art which reflect the beauty of your special interest in the merry-go-round.
